Decrease evenly over K1, P1 ribbing?

Is it possible to decrease evenly over k1, p1 ribbing and continue on with fewer stitches in k1, p1 pattern and have it look right? I’ve ripped back so many times now trying to wing it that I can’t see straight! I’m attempting to make a sweater for my dog without directions, and find that the chest panel, which will be joined with the back panel needs to be reduced in number of stitches in order for the collar to fit snuggly and I’m stumped! I’ve never been accused of being smart and now I know why! Please help…

Stop hitting yourself! You can’t decrease evenly around on k1p1 ribbing and not change the ribbing at all. What you could do, and this is really off the top of my head is do double decreases. Then you would be eliminating a set of k1p1. You’ll see where the decreases occurred, but from that point on it will be a ‘design element’.
