dec stitches

I’m a bit confused.
Can you help explain the following for me! Stratching my head !
dec 1 st at neck edge of next and foll 4 alt rows
then on 4th row and then 6th row until 14 stitches
I thought I was doing well until I got here ha ha ha xx

I’m sure you are doing well. These instructions can be a bit tricky.
Call the next row, row 1.
Dec at neck edge on
Row 1
Rows 3, 5, 7, 9 (4 alt rows)
Row 13 (4th row)
Rows 19 (6th row) and if you need to continue then 25, 31, 37, etc for however many times needed to reach the correct stitch count of 14

Hope this helps

perfect  Thank you xx

You’re welcome, enjoy your project.

Could you help with picking up stitches.
I have started to pick up as indicated. I’ve knot my project on straight needles so I’m struggling to get them on. I’m at the point where the back stiches are on the holder, I knit some on but I’ve no room left and my stitches are slipping off. I still then need to pick up the 10 on the left side
Any suggestions . Thank you Sharon

If you don’t have space on straight needles maybe you need to use circular ones?

For me it is easier to knit on circulars less weight on arms, but that is just personal preference.

I agree a circular needle with a longer cable would give you more room for all the stitches. You do not havento work in the round on a circular needle, you can still knit back and forth like you do with straight needles, turning at the end ofneach row.

Or, you could choose to work the neck in the round if you want to on a circular.

Otherwise it seems you will need longer straight needles which may be cumbersome. Needles come in different lengths, my straights are quite short in comparison to many, maybe yours are too.

yes, I think that may be easier. I’ve not used a circular needles before. So I’ll.go an invest tomorrow and watch some videos on how to…

Thank you

It feels a bit strange at first but it’s easy enough especially if you start using them for flat knitting as you don’t knit differently.

thank you,.I didn’t realise that you could work back and forth too on the circular needle.

Perfect, advice, I’ll need to go buy one tomorrow.

I have one but have never been brave enough.to try it. But it’s.not the right.size for the.neck and arm rib.

Enjoy your shopping trip for the needle.

Maybe use some spare yarn to make a small swatch back and forth on the circular so you get a feel for it before moving on to your project.

We’re here if you run into difficulties.

many thanks for the advice and support

Treat circular needles as like you are knitting a normal straight needle when you get them . That is what I use them for. I also use them for knitting in round/magic loop. I don’t use normal straight needle at all. Also with circular needles you can make blankets knit in round . Have quite a few projects on a go. :joy::crazy_face:
