Debbie Bliss Simply Baby: hooded jacket

Hi,

I am a newbie in knitting, I have very little experience. I am having my first baby this August, and I am trying to knit for him a few things.

Right now I am working on the hooded jacket pattern on page 102 in Debbie Bliss’ Simply baby. I think my problem may be caused by a typo in my book, which is a Spanish edition. I will try to translate so please excuse my English, in particular my knitting terms.

I finished the back, and now I want to start with the second part, which is the left part of the front of the jacket. My translation of the instructions is:

On 5mm needles, mount 33 sts.
Next row K till the end
Next row K1, K till the end
These two rows connect moss stitch with garter stitch at the borders.
Work 4 rows

I find this very confusing, as the back of the jacket is completely knit in stockinette stitch, and the pictures in the book show no garter or moss stitch neither in the front. I am also confused about the purl stitches not being mentioned. My guess is that the text above is wrong and should be something like:

On 5mm needles ,mount 33 sts.
Next row K till the end
Next row K1, P till the end
These two rows connect stockinette stitch with garter stitch at the borders.

If somebody has the book and could help me with this, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you and excuse me for my English and the long message.

Regards,

        Eva

What you say sounds reasonable to me. In English we say “cast on” instead of “mount” for putting the stitches on the needle to begin, but I understood what you said.

I wonder how the text read in Spanish. That would be interesting to me, if you don’t mind typing it out.

Your English is very good. I don’t have that book, but maybe someone will.
