Debbie Bliss A-line coat pattern help

In the fall/winter 2009 Debbie Bliss magazine, pg. 82 the pattern reads K12,[patt5,k3,s2togkpo,k3]3 times,patt 6,k12
I see no reference to patt 5 or 6. what does this mean? Thanks, Melinda

When a pattern says ‘patt 5’ or rib 3’ That’s how many stitches you work in the stitch or rib pattern.

Your row becomes - k 12, (work 5 sts in the pattern, k3, dec, k3) 3 times, work 6 sts in the pattern, k12.
