Hi to u all!
I really love pets and I’ve being interested in animal all my life !
I have 2 dogs : T-bone & Rex and a cat for the last 2 years who’s name is Robert. lately Robert has been having worms, (is it possible that he got it from the neighbor’s dog or other dogs and cats???)
I want to the vet and he gave me some de-worming pills for him. I tried to crumble the tablet into his food but he notice it right away.
I tried wrapping it with some sausage but he refuse to swallow it .
I even tried using force but Robert kept scratching and twirling!!!
what can I do ??

Unfortunately, there is no easy way, IMHO, to give a pill to a cat. Your vet should be able to show you a way that you hold there head and pull back to make them open there mouth – then you shove it down there throat …eek! They also can give you pill shooters that help place the pill in the back of their throat.
We always used peanut butter for our dogs. But we’re not cat people, so I don’t know if that will work.
Pills/capsules work best with a pill popper–mine is plastic and looks like a syringe. Instead of a needle at the end, it has a rubber tube where you can place the pill and administer it to your cat.
I’m right-handed, so I hold my cat’s head with my left hand, with my palm over her head, and my thumb on her right cheek and the rest of my fingers on her left side (think about how you would hold a baseball). Gently tilt the kitty’s head back. Their mouth is supposed to naturally open. If it doesn’t, be patient. Kitty will have to open his mouth eventually to swallow saliva! My girl has jaws of steel and will keep her mouth shut for as long as possible–even after years of taking the same medication! Good luck!
hi!
you can open your cat’s mouth an try putting it on his tongue and make
him swallow it or you can try some websites than sales all kings of medicines of cats and dogs but one seems very sufficient ‘cause it’s wrapped in dry food and in different flavors
you should try it …
Tasties Worm-Out
If scratching is a problem, wrap him in a towel and make sure all four of his feet are secure.
Some of our cats take pills no problem. Other ones…Yikes.
Also, after the pill is in his mouth, gently massage his throat to stimulate swallowing. One of my cats will sit with the pill in her mouth for many minutes before finally swallowing. It’s a dirty process.
[Edit to add: Also, try letting it disolve in milk. Or mixing it with tuna. Something really really yummy that he’s going to want to eat, regardless of the wormer.]
I didn’t know that there were those things that popped pills down the throat! That’s a good idea!
Anyway, I popped in to see if you had been successful yet. How goes the cat pill popping?
I don’t know that it works for all types of worms, but there is a one-time shot available now for de-worming. The vet gives it and that’s it. Call your vet and see if that shot is an option for your cat.
This is a fantastic site. It shows you with PHOTOS and tells you how to do it.

Does the cat knit? Does it have any good patterns? Or knitting tips? :roflhard:
Good Luck.

The reason I’m Mulderknitter is because I am the proud parent of said 10 year old Mulder. The grouchiest cat ever. For said pill problem, I am sorry to say that the “pill popper” only results in me chasing him from room to room and peering at him under the bed. The best course of action I have found is to sit on the cat, yes sit, over him sort of. he’s sitting, and you have him wedged between your legs over him in a sitting position. He should be facing away from you, and hence cant claw you into shreds of doom. pull head up towards you and throw in offensive pill, close mouth and hold until swallows. If said cat does not swallow, do the massage on the neck thing. He eventually will have to open mouth to breathe. Watch for cheeking of pill. Open his mouth (before getting off cat) to check to see if it’s gone. After several pill visits such as this, Mulder quietly absconds and gets it done with as soon as possible, no blood involved. Hope this helps!
I have done it the same way for my cats & dogs. It is a little harder with cats because their mouths are smaller but if you gentlely push on the side of its mouth near his molar teeth his mouth should open enough to get your finger in. rest your finger across his lower molars (be sure to keep it back there cause the front teeth hurt) then place the pill between your finger and his throat. The peanut butter thing works good to. It is harder with cats because they chew everything. They don’t swallow whole like dogs do.
Hi,
I am a cat lover as well. There is a place called “Grandpa’s Pharmacy” (I’m not making this up–they’ve saved my life many times), where they will make any prescription you get for your cat into a liquid that tastes like tuna or chicken. It’s much easier, at least with my cats, to shoot in the liquid with a dropper than try to get them to swallow a pill. If you’d like the address or info, just email me.
