Curling on ends and sides

[FONT=“Comic Sans MS”][/FONT]I am new to knitting. I am doing dish rags. It curls on the ends and sides. Why does it curl?

If you’re doing stockinette - knit one row, purl the next - it does that. Best way to prevent it is to knit about 5 rows (garter stitch) then knit the first and last 5 sts on the purl rows. This makes a border that helps the piece lie a little flatter.
