Curious about boiled wool

What exactly is boiled wool? Is it really “boiled”? It looks felted to me, so is said “boiling” just a different felting method?

I ask because I see boiled wool jackets in catalogs a lot, and of course now I’m thinking “I can make one of those!”; yet, I don’t really know what the process is. :??

Interesting, so boiled wool equals felted.
I’ll have to remember that, someone asked me the other day if my jacket was boiled wool, and I was wondering what they were talking about.
