Crossover Cable Pattern

Hi All! I am quasi doing my own pattern -
6 or 8 st border on both sides
Main pattern = 6 knit sts,
followed by 10 purl sts with a 6-st cable cross over in the middle,
followed by 6 knit sts, etc.
Can someone please tell me how to cross the cables so I have an exact pattern repeat?

Many thanks!

Are you crossing 3sts over 3sts within the 6 knit sts or are you crossing the 6 knits over the next 6 knits? When you say a “pattern repeat,” what do you want to be the repeat?

Have you tried looking in a stitch dictionary (your local library should have one) or in free patterns or tutorials to find a cable that you like the look of?

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I will try my library as well as youtube!

Again, thank you for taking the time to answer! I think I have found the solution as I seem to get my words mixed up when I try to explain. I will start with a cross with the first cable, and then seven rows later cross again. So that every 8 rows, there is a cross. But I am so grateful for you taking the time to try and help me!

Sounds like a good plan. Have fun with your design and let us see a photo of the finished project please. This is very adventurous of you!

Hello
I don’t know if you’re making a blanket, a sweater or what, but thought I’d mention. If you begin right away with a cable cross you may get a distorted edge where the stitches are pulled in to make the cross over. By working some rows first, maybe 4, you give the fabric mkre stability under the first cross over which will help the fabric lay flatter. Perhaps 4 rows, cable cross, then continue as you planned with the 7 rows between and cable on the 8th row.
If you have a rib or a border already coming before the cable begins you can disregard this. It’s just about not starting a cross too close to the edge if you want a flat edge.
