Crosshatch hat

So, after frogging 3 different starts, I finally got the hat to match the My so called scarf the right size. I couldn’t find a pattern online, so I just made mine up as I went.
Truth be told, its very snug. But, hopefully Becky won’t mind. If she does, I ended up with 2 extra skeins of the came color, so it’s not like I couldn’t make her another one.
I also added fringe to her scarf.

Both are completely done now and ready to be mailed to her. And in plenty of time to still get some use out of them!

It’s a little fuzzy, but you get the idea.

I started the hat at the base of the crosshatch part and knit flat. Decreased after about 6 inches. Had to do the decreases another 3 times since they weren’t decreasing fast enough and I kept ending up with a very tall hat.
It left a neat star pattern on the top, but I didn’t think that would be very good to keep a head warm, so I tried to close up the gaps. It ended up very messy (see last pic), but…oh well. How often do you look at the top of a hat anyway?
Seamed it together, went back to the bottom, picked up some stitches around the edge and added on the ribbing on my circs.

I’m fairly pleased with how it came out. I wish they looked more professional, but, hey…I’m not a professional. So, I’m trying not to be too hard on them.

As long as they keep Beck warm, that’s all that really matters, right?

Now I’m just waiting for George’s yarn to get here so I can get her scarf done and out to her for her b-day too. But…while I wait for that, I’m gonna get started on Starsky! :happydance:

Absolutely fantastic job on the hat! You should be very proud!!

They look great together! Way to go!

It looks fantastic! Great job!

Great job! I think the top of the hat looks fine, certainly not messy!

I think it looks awesome and it’s so cool that you were able to make a hat to match w/o a pattern!!

Thanks, everyone.
I’m glad I got it all figured out too.

Great job!

:cheering: That hat looks WONDERFUL! Great job getting the pattern to match!

That looks awesome! I love that stitch pattern for the hat.

What was the yarn?

Plymouth Encore Worsted Colorspun #7304. I doubled it up, so it’s extra thick and warm.

I love the color of that!!! :inlove:

How long did the hat take you?

Um…Once I finally got it the right size, probably a day. Or less, if I had just knit straight through.

The doubled yarn and size 11 needles made it really quick to knit up.

There’s also probably a way to do it in the round (if you don’t like the seam), but I’m not clever enough to figure out how to get the purl-side results on the knit side. So…I just knit flat.

WTG!!! I think that the hat looks great!!! Love, love the collection

Fabulous hat!! Love the stitch detail!!! What a lovely gift set!
