Cross stitch scarf

I’m attempting to knit the Cross Stitch Scarf in the 101 Designer One Skein Wonders book and am having a hard time figuring out the “cross stitch” pattern.

Are they saying to knit into the back of the 2nd stitch?

Do you purl into the back of the 2nd stitch?

This thing is driving me crazy.

Can anybody explain it better than the book? Please, please please…

Can you type the part that’s giving you trouble–not the whole pattern, just the wording that you find confusing.

I figured it out. It would have been easier if they would have just said to knit into the back loop of the second stitch. Thanks though.
