well there is www.crochethelp.com. Not sure that it is terribly helpful in crocheting but it is one of my favorite sites to hang out on. :rofling:
why oh why can’t i stop myself from doing that bit of silliness?
You might find something here. I did a quick search on Google and got a few links. Give it a try.
Here’s a few I found. I doubt there as good as this one though.

Scroll down to see the ones for crochet.

I know how to crochet, but prefer knitting.
brendajos, you are just plain mean. Shame, shame on you!! :fingerwag:.
Here I was all excited that there might actually be something comparable. :crying:
:rofling: :roflhard: :rofling:
i can’t help it! it makes me giggle!
Ha ha! I didn’t realize Sheldon had set up that name to mimick this site! I bought that name thinking maybe one day I’ll make a crochet site. :roflhard:
In the mean time 1to1, you can check out www.stitchguide.com (hmmm, looks like they’ve been bought by Annie’s Attic. Go the the “stitching help” tab and choose crochet.)
hahaha…I’ve been looking for a good site too–my mom crochet’s a little and enjoys it but she isn’t very good…I want to find a good visual way (other than books) for her to learn some new stitches so she’ll feel better about the work she does. She says everything that she does looks the same.
Annies Attic is probably the best video guide for crochet – maybe the only one. As for forums, Crochetville.org is the best.
That is HI-larious!
I think longingly of this every time I look at the unused crochet hooks sitting in my craft room.
Hey here’s thought… you could do some videos just on how to use crochet in combination with knit patterns! You know, like how to crochet a chain instead of using an i-cord, or how to chain around the edge of a piece to finish it off (I say with trepidation as I face my first project where I’ll need to do this and have no idea how).
Seems like lots of projects want you to do a little piece in crochet, like an edging, even though it’s a knit project.
You’re better off going to the ACTUAL forum instead of the archive…
http://www.crochetville.org/forum/
And I post there. It’s a wonderful place, quite comparable to KnittingHelp.com’s forum if I may say so myself.
http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com also has a Free Instruction part.
Those should help you get started.
I appreciate all the replies and will check them out.
Amy, I know you’re busy with this website but someday, PLEASE?!?! Also, I wanted to say thanks again for the basket and everything I won from the anniversary giveaway. You wouldn’t believe all the comments I get about the basket. And it is so fun to say “that I won it from Knitting Help–this wonderful website I go to all the time.”

KristiMetz, Lots of patterns look better when you trim the edges with crochet. But the main reason I want to learn to crochet is because everyone says you can make a baby afghan fast.
There’s such a beautiful variety to crochet… I love it.
When you’ve picked up a few basic stitch techniques, you should shoot over to http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com - they’re the sister site to http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com and they have the largest collection of links to free patterns I’ve seen anywhere.
As a long-time crocheter, I’ve probably been on nearly every email list for crochet at some point or another. I can’t say that I’ve found any forum that is as great as this one. Most of the email groups have completely turned me off of them by the constant bickering and such. I’ve had much better luck with the smaller groups. Stitchguide has gone into Annie’s Attic entirely, and I find it extremely difficult to navigate now. They haven’t even got a good collection of videos. The one place that was the greatest collection of crochet patterns {stargazer’s}, unfortunately is no longer being updated… Martha tried hard to fix up the site after it was hacked by porn, but I think she lost the drive to continue.
Hi have you check Teresa Richardson’s website ? There about more than 300 video.
This was just what I was going to suggest. Teresa is amazing, and she has a YouTube video for just about anything and everything crochet you could ever imagine… from various stitches to full-on small projects and everything in between. I learned all of my stitches and techniques from her. Her site is a good reference with written instructions, but you can also search for her on YouTube and bookmark her to go through her playlist. Her YouTube username is tjw1963 and her actual website with written instructions to accompany all of the videos is http://crochet-mania.blogspot.com/
Teresa also started a Video Crochet group on Ravelry to discuss her crochet videos, take requests, and in general go over new videos that she adds and answer questions on techniques. Do a group search for “Video Crochet” (Rav is blocked at work for me, otherwise I’d link it!) She’s a GREAT resource!
Um… please check the date of the first post before responding. This one was posted in 2006. I’m pretty sure she’s found what she’s looking for or moved on by now. :teehee:
Yes, this is an old thread, but the topic is a good one and the resource posted (as a reply to Sultana) is still useful to anyone… it may not help the OP, since as you mentioned, she probably already got what she needed and/or moved on, but it may help someone else. And you never know – the OP may have moved on but also may come back to pick up crochet again and notice someone posted a new resource, if they get notified via email subscription when their post gets a reply, for example.
These resources never get old, and I don’t think it hurts anyone! In fact, maybe a crochet resource list thread should be stickied, since lots of us do both. At the very least to send people over to the Crochet board… but even over on that board there isn’t a sticky for crochet website resources that help people learn and do crochet the way KH videos do. Perhaps this can be moved there and stickied or something can be started.
