Crochet hook question

Hi,

I am finishing up an emergency baby blanket (it’s a baptism gift and I thought the baptism would be some time this summer, not now!). I plan to crochet around the edge. However, I JUST NOTICED that the directions I have say to use a crochet hook the same size or one size larger than the knitting needles used.:wall:

I made the blanket on 5.5 mm (US size 9) needles and my only crochet hook is 4 mm (US size 6). Will this be a problem? Is there anything I need to be aware of if I use a smaller crochet hook? Do I need to buy another crochet hook?

Thanks!

I’d probably try it but crochet loosely. Then if it doesn’t work you can go get a different size since the crochet will come right out without hurting the blanket.

Thank you for your answer. I’ll do what you said, but I am going to town tomorrow and I guess I’ll stop in at the LYS and see if they have the right size anyway. They might not (it’s a small place).

If there’s a craft or fabric store in your town, they may have crochet hooks too.

I live in a small town in Greece, and I don’t have anything like Joann’s, etc. here. :frowning: Most stores are “mom-and-pop” shops and boutiques. This is nice in a lot of ways, but their inventories can really vary. There are actually three shops in my town that sell yarn and knitting supplies along with other things, but I never know what they are going to have.

If I really, really need something specific, I either order it online or have my mother send it to me from the U.S. But mostly I try to get along locally. I got slightly off-size needles locally for my Booga Bag, which is my next project, but I will order the yarn for it online (scared to substitute, plus I am enchanted by Noro  )
