Couple of Q's about a sweater

So, I’ve tested my newly found passion of knitting on some afghans that turned out wonderfully and while browsing the craft store with my husband he talked me into trying a sweater for something different.

The pattern I’m trying to work with is from the Creative Knitting magazine and I’m confused about a couple things. I’ve read through the entire pattern and can’t quite figure out or decipher these lol.

I have my practice yarn and have been practicing the lace pattern that lines the sweater. I’ve picked that up simple but it’s the corner directions that leave me complexed. So ending with row 6 of the lace pattern, which reads : K1, [k2tog, yo] twice, k5, yo, k1 - 12 stitches.

That leaves 12 stitches to be worked and I get how to do that row but now we move onto the corner. Row 1 of the corner reads: K10, turn. What do they mean turn and what do I do with the last 2 stitches? I get how to do the rows that don’t involve the “turn” I just don’t understand the whole “turn” thing.

Also, this is my first sweater so I’m confused about the armhole, neck shaping. For example, I’m supposed to work the back until it measures about 16 inches ending with a ws row. I get that. Now to start the shaping of the armhole it says, bind off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec1 st at each edge [every other row] 6 times - 92 stitches. If someone could put that into a kind of “knitting for dummies” language for me I would appreciate it!

Sorry if I’ve lost anyone or asked too many questions in one post, but I really just want to understand the pattern more before I dive into this.

:aww:

When you have ‘turn’ and you’re not at the end of the row, turn anyway and leave the remaining sts unworked on the needle. This makes ‘short rows’ and is used for shaping. You’ll work the leftover sts later on.

Now, for the neck shaping, do exactly what it says - BO 6 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows (count the sts passed over the other, not how many you knit). That will be on the RS and WS rows. The next 6 RS rows dec at the beg and the end (each edge) of the rows and you’ll have 92 sts left.

Thanks Suzee. I might have been over thinking the shaping and confused myself. I’ll give it a go. Worst I can do is learn from my mistakes.
