Counting rows

this is probably going to sound really obvious, but, how do you count rows of knitted stocking stitch for a pattern? For example, my pattern goes, ‘work 6 more rounds in st st.’ then you change needles to start the rest of the pattern. I’m having trouble figuring out how many rows i’ve done. When i’ve reached the end of a round (at stitch marker), and i’m looking at the little v’s do you count the loops still on the needle as a row? so 5 little v’s and the loops on the needle = 6 rounds, or is that 5 and do i need to do one more round??? :?? thankyou if anyone can figure out what i mean!

The reason it is impossible because you have to keep track of how much you knitting since you are doing to stst knit and purl and havent yeat figured out a way but trying dividing in half as in like 6 st = 3 rows it always works for me when I am doing the st.

This is a question that there is a degree of disagreement on. I’ve read that the stitches on the needle are stitches in waiting and that you don’t count them. After all, you haven’t knit them yet, so they aren’t your 6th row yet.
I count the v’s as rows. Then one on my needle would be my 7th row.

I count the row on the needle only when I’m doing stripes. The socks I’m making for my DH call for stripes of 6 rows, so when I have 5 rows of v’s, that plus the one on my needle makes the 6 rows. Otherwise I usually count “completed” rows… as long as I’m consistent within a project on how I count, 1 row isn’t really going to make that much of a difference IMO.

Thanks for the advice, it makes sense to me that as long as i always count them the same it’ll work out in the end - just one of those mind bending knitting things i guess! Thanks again!~
