Cottage Yarn is having a Mountain Retreat in NC!

Some of you are aware that my favorite yarn shop is the one that is owned by my cousin. You might think I prefer that shop because of family loyalty, but nothing could be further from the truth.

I just love the place, because it’s a wonderful yarn shop.

I’ve gone to almost every yarn shop in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Cottage Yarn is my preference. The ladies who work there are all so friendly, and I can sit and knit anytime I want, without feeling out of place. They have lots of great yarn, and good prices too.

I went this past Saturday, and asked if I could take photos. My cousin agreed, so here they are!

You can watch a slideshow if you prefer.

How far is that from Raleigh??? My parents live there and when I visit, I would love to see that store.

Here’s the website for Cottage Yarn, where you can get the street address:

www.cottageyarninc.com

I’m a slow driver, and it takes me about 4 hours to get to Raleigh from this area. I have a friend who can do it in 2 hours, but I think they are breaking the law. :teehee:

Wow! I am so jealous! I’ve never even been to a lys…only AC Moore and Hobby Lobby…

That really looks like Disney World for knitters! Knitters’ Knirvana!!

well I’m not related and agree 100% with you. I make it a point to hit all the yarns shops when I travel like many of you… the selection is incredible, prices reasonable and all the employees make you feel welcome  . they are so willing to help… yea!! :woohoo:

Wow! I thought my yarn shop was great, but oh my what paradise! I especially like the “wall of noro”:passedout:

I LOVE that quote! I’m gonna tell my cousin what you said. She’ll love hearing that you said that!

My weakness is the Debbie Bliss and all the sock yarn. But, you’re right…the “wall of Noro” is divine!

WOW. :noway: I think the amount of Yarn Porn in those pics has to upgrade this thread to XXX status. I think the store has more yarn than that lady with the World’s Biggest Stash. And that was a biiiig stash!

I grew up in Charlotte (took horseback riding lessons in Mint Hill) and my mom still lives there. I think a field trip may be in order during my next visit. :woot: Uh, and my next visit may need to be before winter…

That wall of Noro might give me a seizure, though. Sensory overload!!! AAaaaaa!!! :eyes::zombie:

I’m still investigating all the LYS in my area (Los Angeles) and I’ve found some cool ones but nothing that insane. Thanks for posting the pics.

And for the person driving from Raleigh to Charlotte, that is a 3.5 hour to 4 hour trip. If someone is making it in 2 hours they are flying or driving > 120 mph. I’ve gotten a coupla speeding tickets on that trip (I also used to live in Raleigh and Chapel Hill) but I’ve never made it in under 3.5 hrs.

That tickles me!!:roflhard: <----(me, being tickled!)

During the summer, the shop is closed on Mondays, and that is the day I always want to go.

I just wanted to let you know of another yarn shop you should check out when you are in town. Charlotte Yarn is also great. They are also very friendly and have a wonderful selection of yarns. They also carry a lot of Noro and Malabrigo yarns. They are also getting the Malabrigo in the lace weight. You can visit their website at www.charlotteyarn.com. There are pictures of the shop on their website. I am a new knitter and they are always nice and willing to help me out.

Lissalue and I went to Cottage Yarn today, and were surprised to see Doodknitwit there as well!

We enjoyed browsing the yarn and getting our “feel” for the week. It was a good thing.

While we were there, Sara (the owner) told us that they are having a SALE next Saturday, August 25th!
:cheering: :happydance: :cheering:

Lots of their yarn is going to be marked down 40-50% off!!!

It will be set up outside, so I guess you’d call it a “Sidewalk Sale”. The hours for the sale are 9 AM to 5 PM.

I have to play organ for a wedding that day, so I’ll do my best to get by there. Some of the baby yarn will be marked down!

Beautiful, warm, comforting and nurturing place to spend your creative time in…

I’m TOO jealous:aww:

Thank you! I do feel lucky to have that shop nearby.

I hope you can find something similar in your area soon.

The Cottage is closed on Mondays during the summer, so if you’re wanting to go and check it out, be sure to wait until Tuesday.

I’ve been there a few times and it is a great LYS!!! I can’t wait to the 25th:woot:.

see you there…

Sandy, I hope your cousin gives you a discount for advertising for her!!

I really need to visit Charlotte & see more than the airport!!

That is a knitter’s dream.

My cousin is a SWEETHEART.
I don’t buy yarn that often, but when I do, she will occasionally give me a good discount. It always comes as a surprise, though. I never expect it.

Sandy - did you tell your cousin about my “disneyworld for knitters” comment?
