I have a vest pattern I would like to make but it is knitted in a #5 suede yarn and I want to do it in a #4 worsted. How do I figure out how much yarn I need? And also vice versa if I want to go to a #4 from a #5.
Figure out your sts per inch in the yarn and needles you want to use, then how many sts you need for the fronts and back combined. See if there’s a size in the pattern that uses close to the same number of sts and follow that size. You may have to adjust lengths for those in what your correct size would be.
Maths again! Aren’t we all glad we paid attention in school?! Well, I’m math challenged but I think I get what you’re saying. All I knew was that I’d need more sts. When I do this for my own use I just compare to a garment I already have, but this is for someone else.
