Converting {2} k2p2 ribs into 1 k4p4 rib

Hi.
I’m just starting to attack different techniques in knitting other than the basic seed, stockinet and ribbing.
I’m making my first hat and I want to convert a k2p2 rib pattern to a k4p4 pattern. I can picture what to do in my head, but can’t get the project to look right. I was hoping to get the knit stiches to look like they flow toward and join each other side by side. I’m using # 7 circular needles with sport yarn and 112 stiches on needle. I have about 3 inches of k2p2 ribs and am ready to join 2 k2 ribs into 1 k4 rib. Any help to this newbie would be appreciated

It might work to do a cable cross of 2 knit sts over one of the purl sts. If you hold 2k to the front, p1 and k2 from cable needle then hold 1p to the back, k2 and p1 from the cable needle, and repeat that onthe rest of your sts that’ll give you k4p4.
112sts is a good number to use for this and it should work out evenly expecially if you’re knitting in the round and won’t lose a stitch or two to a seam.

After I posted my question, I stared at my work for 20 min and did just that. I guess I spoke b4 thinking. LOL. But. Thank you. It’s good to know I did it right.
