I am so confused - please help. I’m knitting a shrug a ‘very simple’ 1 piece pattern. The pattern looks like a rectangle with a smaller rectangle centered on each end (sleeves). You start of with the first sleeve CO 38, knit about 7 inches - then for body - increase and CO each side until you have 74 sts. This part I have. Problem is when I get to the end of the body and have to start the other sleeve I don’t know what to do. Pattern says bind off 12 sts at beg of first 2 rows. Okay, so I bind off 12 sts, continue row by knitting 50 sts (start of sleeve) and then do I bind off the last 12 sts? If I bind off at beg and end how do I get back to continuing the sleeve (I still have 7 inches to go)? But, the pattern doesn’t say bind off at the beg and end of row - just beginning of first 2 rows. I hope this is more understandable to you then it is to me. Seven inches to go and …HELP!
Continue to knit after Bind off?
okay well i am trying to visualize…see if this makes sense to your pattern.
you are going along knitting and then get to where you are suppose to bind off. So you bind off the first 12 and then keep knitting the rest of the row. Turn the work and bind off the first 12 again…you will then be back to the work and can continue on from there.
does that work?
I do believe you’ve given me the right answer. The weird part is - okay follow me on this - the first 12 bind offs are on one row and when I turn the work and do the 2nd set of 12 bind offs I’m on the next row. Because it’s the sleeve and will be sewn on that edge I’m guessing it will be okay and not look uneven. ?? Anyway, I will knit on and let you know how it all turns out. Thanks so much for your quick response.
yup if i am right, it will look fine. you won’t be able to tell at all once it is stitched together.
i have a feeling if i had been wrong someone would have corrected me…sadly…i am wrong often. good thing we have such smarties helpin’ to keep me from leading people totally astray… :rofling:
