Confusion with bootee pattern

Can somebody help me please. I have started knitting bootees and the patern says

4th Row: K1, m1, K16 (16 :17 :17), m1, K1, m1, K16 (16 :17 : 17), m1, K1
39(39 : 41 :41)sts
Cont to inc 4sts in this way on every foll alt row to 51 (51 :53 :53)sts, ending with a wrong side row.
I am currently here about to start row 10 of the 51 rows.

I don’t understand this pattern, can anybody explain it to me?
It seems to me that it is telling me to increase 4 stitches every alternate row for 51 rows. Surely this would create more stitches than would fit on my 3.5 mm needles.

The pattern continues like this
Beg with a Krow work 4 rows in st-st.
Next row (making a ridge): *Ktog 1st from first row of st-st, rep from * to end.
Work 3 rows in gst.

Would be very grateful of any help.
Hamster:??

That would be big. Actually the pattern only wants you to continue until there are 51 stitches.
Cont to inc 4sts in this way on every foll alt row to 51 (51 :53 :53)sts, ending with a wrong side row.
So 3 increase rows should get you to 51sts (6 rows total).

Thankyou ever so much salmonmac. I can carry on knitting happily now for a bit anyway, until I get stuck again! lol:knitting:
