Confusion over alternate rows

Good afternoon I really need some help with the following please :smirk:

Dec 1 st at armhole edge of next 7 rows then on foll 4 alt. rows then on 4th row and at the same time dec 1 st at neck edge of next foll 11 alt rows, then on 0 foll 4th rows 26 sts
Dec 1 st at neck edge only on 2nd and foll 0 alt rows, then on 6 foll 4th rows, then on foll 6th row until 18 sts remain.

I am new to knitting and I am very confused by the above :astonished:

Welcome to KH!
That is a lot to get through. I find it easier to take it one step at a time. Where there is a 0 for your size, you can skip that step.
If you call the next row, row 1 then dec at the armhole on rows 1,2,3,4,5,6,7; then dec on rows 9,11,13 and 15 and finally on row 19.
For the neck edge decrease on rows 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17,19 and 21. That should take you to 26sts.
Continue to dec at the neck only on rows 23,27,31,35,39,43 and 47 and finally on row 53.
Whew! It helps to keep track of row numbers and check them off as you work them.
