Confusion on repeat

So I’m finally starting the pattern for the tank I got from KnitPicks.

I’m a little confused on how, exactly, to read the repeats in the pattern.

The line is:
Row 7: [Knit 46, (p2, k2)5 times, p2, k46, (p2, k2)5 times, p2] Repeat after.
Repeat Row 7 for 11 inches.

So, my first take was that I (k2, p2) 5 times. But, those steps are before the *. And it says to repeat after the *. In that case, I’d p2 5 times. And if so…I just don’t see why’d you be p2’ing 5 times. But, if that’s what it says to do, that’s what I’ll do.

…Once I get it figured out, anyway.

So…was I right the first time and just thinking about it too hard, or after thinking about it did I get it right?

Thanks.

My take would be to (p2, k2) 5 times in each of the sections and then repeat everything between the [ ]

So k46, p2k2p2k2p2k2p2k2p2k2 p2 . The second half within the brackets is a repeat of the first, though.

Can we go look at this pattern, at least a picture?

The link is here

The pic didn’t really help me figure it out. But, this is my first real pattern, so I’m not entirely sure I know what’s going on.

Thanks Ingrid. I suppose I can throw in a lifeline, knit for a while, see if it looks right, and if it doesn’t frog back to the lifeline and try it again another way.

Edit: It’s knit in the round. The reason the second part of the brackets is the same as the first is because after I do this part (for the 11 inches), I split it up and work the front and back seperately.
At least, that what I’m thinking the reason is anyway.

I think what I said was right. The 46 stitch sections must be the front and back and in between you have p2, k2 ribbing.

Ok, that’s what I thought.
The whole “Repeat after *” is what was confusing me.

Thanks!
Back to work. :XX:

Sometimes designers are fast and loose with their ***. She probably was referring to the one * after the whole shebang, and forgot about the incidental *'s inside.
