This is probably a really dumb question but…
I’m making a baby blanket edge and the instructions say:
1st Row:: K2, yf, k2tog, yf, k to end.
How do you knit with the yarn forward? 
just knit it like a regular stitch. it will seem akward at first but it isn’t bad.
oooooooh wait…i just realized your real question. It is actually a yarn over. the yarn doesn’t stay forward! 
Yarn forward is another way of saying yarn over. HTH
