Can someone please help me? I’m trying to knit a scarf. I have 29 stitches on my needle. everything goes ok until I get to the 5th row and something keeps going wrong. I end up with one stitch extra. the row is like this. K2, K2tog, *YO, K3, YO, SL 1, K2tog, Psso, rep from * to last 4sts, YO, K2tog, k2. I’ve taken it apart 6 times, started over 3 times, trying to figure this out. Please help!
Thank you Bo garcia
Confused
Well, there is something that doesn’t add up in this row. These directions are for 26sts total not 29sts. When you finish the row, you’ll be down to 25sts. There are two things I can suggest, check that the row you quoted is exactly correct and check that you should really have 29sts on the needle. Can you post a link to the pattern or give us the name of the pattern?
It’s possible to work the center stitches to using 21 stitches by not completing the repeat. Work the complete repeat 6 times, ending with yo, k3, yo.
4, 21, 4 and that adds up to 29.
Hi Ladies, so happy to get a reply. Ok the pattern I’m working on is from the book 50 Fabulous knit Garter Stitches by Rita Weiss.
This is the pattern to the 5th row, where it gets weird.
Multiple:8+5 ( which means the stitches to make the pattern +5 right??)
Row 1: (right side) K4, *K2tog, YO, K1, YO, K2tog, K3; rep from * to last st K1
Row 2: knit all even rows
Row 3: K3; K2tog, YO, K3, YO, K2tog, K1, rep from to last 2 sts, K2
Row 5: K2, K2tog;YO, K5, YO, sl 1, K2tog, PSSO; rep from to last 4 sts, Yo, K2tog, K2
There it is. there are 12 rows in all. I have been knitting off and on for a while but easy stuff. I “youtubed” on things that I don’t understand and it always helps. Thank you for taking the time.
It could be that the repeat YO, K5, YO, sl 1, K2tog, PSSO; rep from should be YO, K4, YO, sl 1, K2tog, PSSO; rep from although the row still winds up decreasing one st to 28sts. I’d have to try the pattern to see if this works or not.
Is there an increase in the next few rows to bring the total sts back to 29?
Well, row 7 is K3; yo, k2tog, k3, k2tog, yo, k1; rep from to last 2 sts, k2
row 9 is k4, yo, k2tog, k1, k2tog, yo, k3 rep from to last st, k1
row 11 is k5, yo, sl 1, k2tog, psso, yo,k5, rep from across
row 12 is Rep row 2
thats the whole pattern.
OK, I think it all works, even the beginning of row 5 with the repeat. The part that seems off is the end of row 5. After the third repeat, I think it should be YO, k1. That keeps the st count at 29 and it works with row 7 (I think). Give it a try if you would and see if it works for you.
Thank you sooooo much! I’m going to give it a try! I’ll let you know how it goes! God Bless!
I just don’t know what im doing wrong. I couldn’t get the other pattern right so I tryed another one and I have extra sts??? im so frustrated
this one is so easy but the stitches are nit right. row 1 knit row 2 K1*Yo,sl 1 K2,psso the K2 rep. Thats it! do I pass over knit sts?
Multiple 3+2
Thank you
Bo
Yes, pass the slip st over the 2 knit sts.
row 1 knit
row 2 K1*Yo,sl 1 K2,psso the K2 rep
Multiple 3+2
Make sure too that you’re doing the Yo correctly. There’s a video on the Glossary tab at the top of this page.
I can see the repeat or multiple of 3 but is there another st for the +2? There’s only one knit st showing outside the repeat.
Setting up these patterns is sometimes frustrating but once you have this row set, it should all go much easier.
Yes, no matter which pattern you use, a YO is only wrapping the yarn around the needle, not a wrap and knit a stitch too. That trips up a lot of people when they do lace the first time, using a stitch to make a YO - it doesn’t.
