Confused with instructions

Hi guys. I am knitting a cardigan,Zico, from Kitty (deep fall 2025). I have knitted the “Body Patttern”. I should now start the “Neck Shaping”, but I can’t understand the instructions. It goes

Begin neck shaping:
Note: V-neck shaping is worked every 4th row, one cable repeat in from the neckline edge. If there are not enough sts to work both the yo and the decrease in the lace pattern, work those sts in stockinette st. You may choose to work cables over a smaller numbers of sts (for example, cross 3 sts over 2 for a 5-st cable) as needed.

Dec Row [RS]: Work 8 sts in pattern, k2tog, work in pattern to last 10 sts, ssk, work 8 sts in pattern. 2 sts decreased at neckline edges.
Row 2 [WS]: Purl to end.
Row 3: Work in pattern as established.
Row 4: Purl to end.
I really don’t understand the Dec Row (RS) . I would appreciate if you could help. Many thanks,

OK, looking at the picture, I see that the center front cable continues all the way up along the neckline. The decreases start at about where the top button is, and I see the lace pattern gradually tapering away.

So, on Decrease Row 1, you’ll work the first 2 edge stitches and the 6-stitch cable, k2tog (decrease 1), knit across the chart until you’re 10 stitches from the end, ssk (decrease 2), then work the 2 edge stitches and the 6-stitch cable. I would place markers at the cables, to be sure I maintain them throughout.

Rows 2-4 are worked as you normally would, allowing for the decreases. When you get to a lace eyelet and should work k2tog / yo, but there aren’t enough stitches to maintain the pattern, just knit 2 stitches instead (stockinette). When the decreases involve a cable, you can either work partial cables (3x2, then 2x2, etc.) or work plain stockinette.

There will be more decreases on Row 5 of the chart, then Row 3, then Row 1 (every 4th row) until you get to the number of stitches for your size.

I hope that helps! If not, someone else may explain it better.

Thank you so much. It seems a lot clear the way you explained it
I will go back to it now. Thank you again :slightly_smiling_face:
