Confused by short row instructions

I am working on a baby hat. I completed the back and sides all in one piece. It now says:

Begin short row shaping on next row (RS): Work 47 sts in pattern, ssk, turn work without completing the row.
Next row (WS): K1, work in pattern as established across 28 sts, k2tog, turn.
Repeat these two rows until the middle third has “eaten up” the two outer thirds and 30 sts remain. Bind off.

I’m confused by the “repeat these two rows”. There are no 47 sts when I repeat and it doesn’t make sense. Do you think they meant to just repeat the 2nd row? Thanks for your help!

Hmmm that could be, try it doing 28 sts, dec and turn, for a few rows and see if that works.

I think the important thing is that on each row you work one more st from the unworked sides into the center sts by doing a ssk on the RS and a k2tog on the wrong side. You don’t need to count sts so much as watch for the decrease from the previous RS or WS row. It will shape the hat in a manner somewhat similar to a sock heel.
