Confused by cushy cables afghan pattern

I want to be sure I’m understanding the “cushy cables afghan” instructions correctly:

I know I just keep working the panel pattern rows 1-16 until desired length is reached, but for the moss stitch in between, should I just keep working the “proceed as follows” part 1-4?

So, for example, for row 5 I would work row 1 of the “proceed as follows” part, inserting row 5 of the panel pattern? And then for row 6 I would work row 2 of the “proceed as follows” part, inserting row 6 of the panel pattern? And then for row 7 I would work row 3 of the “proceed as follows” part, inserting row 7 of the panel pattern, etc?

I want to avoid doing it all wrong and having to start over …

Thanks,
Doris

You’ve got it exactly!! Like this:

Row 1 - moss; Row 1 Cable
Row 2 - moss; Row 2 Cable
Row 3 - moss; Row 3 Cable
Row 4 - moss; Row 4 Cablr
Row 1 - moss; Row 5 Cable
Row 2-moss; Row 6 cable
Row 3-moss; Row 7 cable
Row 4-moss; Row 8 cable
Row 1-moss; Row 9 cable
Row 2-moss; Row 10 cable

And u keep repeating rows 1-4 of moss and rows 1-whatever of the cable. What I’ve done with concurrent patterns like that is get some index cards and use tally marks for each row. Like this:

Moss stitch: llll - llll -

Cable: llll

And you would continue with the tally marks for these patterns

Thank you so much - I needed that reassurance! I’m writing each row pretty much the way you did, and then crossing each one out as I do it.

Oh good!!! Be sure to post a pic when you’re done!!!
