Confused about starting entrelac glove pattern

This is the start of the pattern:
Left-Leaning Start

Tier 1: With A, work 2 LBT. Place on hold for thumb.

Finger Cover

Tier 1: With A, work 6 LBT.

Tier 2: With B, work 6 RR, joining without twisting to

work seamlessly.

Tier 3: With A, work 6 LR.

I’m confused on how to start this pattern. I learned entrelac by casting on for the entire foundation row. But if I’m reading this pattern correctly, you cast one 1 for the first LBT. How do I go about working the second LBT, though? It doesn’t look right casting on. Or am I reading this wrong? I tried looking up videos to see if there is another method to start the foundation row for entrelac, but couldn’t find anything. Also, The pattern is supposed to be seamless so why would you wait until the second tier to join? Thank you in advance.

What is the name and designer of your pattern?
The pattern talks about base stitches. Could these be the initial cast on?

So the pattern calls for 6 base stitches per portion. That’s what I thought at first but does that mean I would cast on 12 for the thumb and then cast on one more? The LBT part says to only work that one cast on.

Does the pattern start with ribbing or is that picked up later?

That’s picked up later

I’m puzzled too for the same reason. I’ve always started with a cast on of all the sts. Are there any directions for the “base stitches”?

The only mention about base stitches is in the pattern notes. I’m just adding the whole section in case I’m just not seeing something.

Pattern Notes
These mitts are worked from the fingers down and are
completely seamless. In an effort to make a symmetrical
pair, the left-leaning units and right-leaning units are
switched for the second mitt. This does not affect the
wearability - only the visual appeal. The felted version
shown in the pictures has both mitts made exactly the
same. Ribbing is added after the entrelac portion is
finished and can be worked to the desired length.

Color A will be at the fingers, color B is at the cuff.

NOTE: All units are worked over 6 (7) base sts for the
entire mitt.

It then goes on to the start of the pattern

Have you tried working the triangle as written, without an initial cast on of all the needed sts?

One of the projects on Ravelry mentions reducing the number of base sts to 5. It’s worth understanding what those base sts are. You might message sjwyman to ask about this. It’s a new way of entrelac to me.

I did try doing it that way. The first LBT is fine. It’s what happens when you do the second LBT, that makes this way seem wrong. I think I will message them and ask them. I did message the author but there has been no response as of yet.

It seems like you’re on the right track however. The ribbing may well pull these separate triangles together as will the following tiers. It’s been a while since this pattern was posted and the designer may not be paying proper attention anymore.

What if you ignore the pattern’s start of the entrelac with the CO of one stitch and just cast on the number of sts needed for the number of triangles?

I’m sorry not to be able to help. Let us know how it’s going and if the designer gets back to you. Her Ravelry name is the entrelac queen so I’m sure this is a clever technique.

I never thought of that. I’ll try casting on the base sts and see how that looks. Thank you for your help.
