hi i’m new to knitting and i have some problems with ribbing.i’ve been trying to do a p3k3 scarf.however, after i’ve knit the first row, the second row has more stitches and are in a weird joined, unjoined stitch pattern.am i doing something wrong or is there some other trick to it?
I suspect that you’re not bringing your yarn to the proper position to knit and purl you next stitches.
Knit the first three with the yarn in back, then bring the yarn forward between the needles to purl the next three. Bring the yarn back between the needles to knit the next 3. Keep doing this, making sure that your yarn is in back for knits and in the front for purls.
thanks!
If the number of stitches per row is getting larger, you may be accidentally bringing the yarn over the needle when you move it from back to front or front to back. (That’s called, logically enough, a yarnover, and it’s a form of increase.)
When you follow Ingrid’s advice, be sure you bring the yarn BETWEEN the needles, not OVER them and you should be fine.
(Yeah, you’ll have to rip out the bad row…)
