Confused about number of rows

I have worked on a jumper for a while on and off. I had finished the back a little over a month ago and, now, I just finished knitting the front up to the shoulders cast off however, when I place both front and back together, it seems I made a mistake when counting the rows at the back of the jumper.
I tried counting the rows using a needle and I seem to have 104 on the back however, I have knitted a 104 rows at the front and it looks like at least 5 rows are missing to get both the back and front of the jumper to the same height. I also measure 42.5cm for the back against 39.5cm for the front.
Is knitting more rows the solution ?
I have left this jumper for another 2 weeks aside as I am unsure what to do but it seems a shame not to finish it…
Thank you for your help!

Hi Celine2
I would go with measurements. If the front measures less than the back then I would say it needs more rows. Lay the pieces flat on a table and measure again trying not to stretch the material and, if there is still a difference, just add a few more rows. Your knitting tension can sometimes change which will alter the amount of rows per inch.
It will be worth all the effort at the end lol, I’m making a cardigan in a similar marl yarn at the moment but mine has green cream and grey marl.
Hope this helps

Thank you so very much for your help! I will check again putting both pieces flat. It may need to be pinned down a bit as both pieces roll around the edge.
I quite like this type of yarn too as the colors blend nicely together. Best of luck with your project

When I’m counting rows in stocking stitch, I get a contrasting colour of smooth cotton and thread it through the purl bumps on the wrong side.

I thread it through every other purl bump. Choose either a “smile” or a “frown” and stick to that column.

Having said that, I would probably go with measurements.

You could check your row gauge and see whether it is different, just to find out the reason for the discrepancy.

Looks like lovely yarn.
