Confused about horizontal knitting and leaving stitches open for handles of a bag.

Hi!!

Bit confused about this point in my pattern, been knitting in the round and I’ve just done some wrap and turn to make gentle sloping for this handbag’s handles and no I’m doing horizontal, but I’m confused as its saying to knit a round in horizontal but the stitches will stay open on the short sides? I’m confused as it all looks like its on one level row now? Have I joined the long and short together when I shouldn’t?

Thank you! The pattern is Kumo Bag by Nadia Ingeborg

Looks like you cast off on the long sides only leaving the short side stitches on the needles so that you can make the handles. Cast off along the long side, work across the short side then cast off on the other long side and work across the second short side.
To be sure, see what the next directions are. They should tell you something about making the handles.

This is for the start of the handles, I still can’t quite work it out :((

OMG I’ve just realised, I read ‘Stitches are now cast off…’ as what would happen at the end of the horizontal row, she’s introducing the next step!! Sorry about that! Thanks for answering anyway!!!

Nothing better than that lightbulb going off. Great news. We’d love to see a photo when you finish!
