Combined KNitting help

ive been learning to knit from this website continental style and have been getting on ok. but my purl is still very dodgy and difficult. i have tried several ways to do a standard purl so i decided to do a combined one. this felt so much better but now im confused as to how i proceed

i want to make some fingerles mittens in the round for my dd, 32 stitches in a 2x rib in the round on dpn’s. how do i do this with combined?

i guess theres a few things i may been to know about combined knitting, is there a good book i can buy? or a realy good website that cover these things?

thanks

Julie

This website has info.

Another website for combined knitting is Annie Modesitt’s. For working in the round in stockinette you don’t have to knit the sts tbl.

thanks for the links guys, that table will be really useful until i get better at reading my stitches. i can do the purls so much better now

reckon i will do various swatches and see how i get on before i make my mind up.

thanks

been trying this out, did a swatch with 40 stitches and did about an inch of 2x2 rib then some stockinette then some more rib.

the stockinette looks great, all nice and neat, but the rib doesnt. the V parts of the rib are not neat and even. they look correct, just a bit mesier than the others, any ideas why?

thanks

It happens, but combined knitting is supposed to be smoother in ribbing. Maybe you just need more practice?

hope its just more practice, i realy like the way it feels smoother to do than before.

then again i am looking at it at close range, also most things come out in the wash dont they? well usually in the wash, this is in acrylic after all.

maybe i should give it mroe than a day before getting upset, and pehaps at a less hormonal time of the month too

what i find amusing is that even though i find the western purling hard and horrible to do, my ribbing in the round is much neater that way than my combined flat swatch is.

It’ll even out in the wash. I knit that way and it works. There’s no faster way to knit stockinette in the round, fer sure.
