Collar woes

I added the collar to my sweater - it was already knit, so I sewed it to the sweater. Much to my dismay the top of my collar (it’s twisted rib) is too big! Around the sewn edge it retched or unstretched?looks nice, but there is too much fabric at the top of it. I ripped the collar off already, and here are my ??.

  1. When I pick up sts for the new collar, do I use the gauge of my rib when st?
  2. My original collar was 2 " high. Is there a trick to making the collar lie down flat at the top?
    Thanks!

Use the smaller needles to pick up stitches for the collar. Something you can do is to knit it twice as long and fold it down and stitch it to the inside–it won’t try to flare out.
