Dear all I am having trouble with a pattern.
It regards the collar , it seems like I must turn the work in some way, because it is to be folded later. But as I go on if I would fold it now, the ws will be on the outside. I do not understand what " collar and facing" means?
Is it possible to add a picture here, on the pattern rows?
Thanx in advance
Maria.
Hi and welcome to KH. You can post pictures. A link to your pattern would be helpful if you can provide one, or the name of your pattern and where you got it.
Hi
Thanks alot for the welcome
I can not seem to get a picture that I can upload, not the pattern either, it is to big
I can try to copy the part tomorrow, unless perhaps I can send the pattern to your email?
I bauhgt it on as a vintage pattern on Etsy

Welcome to the forum!
Sounds like a collar that folds over, continues with a knit lining or facing and then is sewn down on the inside to the body of the sweater.
If you can give us a quote of the directions for the collar, that may be enough to help you.
Can you tell us the pattern name? Someitmes it helps us to find it and then locate a picture.
If you’d like to post a photo, these directions will help.

I will write what it tells me to do
I have 29 stc left, and have ended the last row wiht Purl.
Collar and facing
Inc at end of row 0 times and p 1 row (I have done this)
Next row-Inc Row-K, inc, by k an extra st in back loop of the next st on row below, k to within sts of end, inc st as before k to end having sts (done this as weell)
Repeat inc every 2 row 23 times, end with 2 row on 77 st
This is where i do not understand, if I do this then the work looks the same from start to this point, one sid purl one side knitt. However the picture show and the pattern later tells me to fold the collar, but if I fold the collar then the ws (purl side) becomes the outside of the collar, and the picture shows that the collar shall also show the rs (the knitted side)
It seems like I must turn the work so when I fold the collar the right side will show.
I am not sure how to explain this, so if I can send the pattern I would be happy !!

Dear
The pattern is baught en etsy, I have the PDF but it is to large to upload, and I think my explenation below is “not good eunogh since it only shows a part of the pattern” I will look at the video and see if it helps, but I can send the pattern to you perhaps, if I can recive a email adress?
Thanks in advance
The pattern is on etsy and it is called
Style NO 9619
Cardigan with shawl collar
I have no access it says to upload pictures =(
So if some one can check my flickr =)
:knitting:
it sounds like a split collar, that is, it’s knit back and forth on the needles with an opening (either at the front or at the back). If you fold it one way the purl side shows but what if you fold it the other way, so that the knit side shows? Perhaps, instead of folding to the inside of the neck you should fold to the outside or vice versa, depending on which will make the knit side show?
Hi
If I just fold it like the collar of a shirt, then the purl side will show, but the picture shows that the knitted side is to be out. Am i to fold it double and sew in in some kind of way? I got that information earlier from some one here, and perhaps that is what I must do but it feels like it will be very thick then?
I have posted a pic of the sweater and the part that I am struggeling with on my " only for this" made page =)
It certainly sounds like it should be folded double and sewn down. That’s the idea of the facing.
I’ve made shawl collars like this on cardigans and one folded over like a shirt collar, as you say, and the facing formed the llining underneath the collar. The other folded in the opposite direction, over to the inside. In both cases the knit side of stockinette was on the outside.
You really need the doubled fabric with plain stockinette to keep it from curling.
The other possibility is to redo the collar switching the knit and purl sides so that when you fold it like a shirt collar, the knit side will be to the outside.
Hi! It does not curl up not yet anyway! So I just keep on going and when I am done and have 77 sts, I will look at the pattern again. So the thing is I shall first fold it towards the inside (so that it is double) and sew in on the neckline" inside " the back piece? I will give it a go and see what will happen!
I might get back to you regarding this if ok?many many thanx! I hope I will make it!
:woohoo:
One more question! If I bind of, can I then do what you say and switch so I make purl when it should be knitt and vice versa ? Does it make a difference what side I pick up 29 sts? Or I will give it a go, and see what is best! I am at row 1 any way on the collar parts since I " undone" the 20 rows I had made
When I’ve done this, I’ve picked up sts on the wrong side of the sweater, that is with the wrong side facing me. That way, the seam that forms where you pick up sts will be covered over by the collar. That seam will be hidden inside the collar and facing when you seam the bound off edge to the sweater.
