Co# for socks

Just curious what your average cast on is for socks. I know in Silvers sock class she says 64 for fingering weight. I cast on 56 and I only have the cuff about 1/2 way done and it seems like it will be the right size. Just curious. Hope y’all are having a good Monday.

I base it on foot circumference -10% or so for negative ease. I think some people use ankle circumference, though.

I don’t understand negative ease… :?? I think I CO 64, but this is only my third sock.

I take “negative ease” to mean that you would cast on to get a smaller circumference than your foot for a snug fit.

I CO 48 st, but I don’t use fingering weight. (I use something as thick as opal 6-ply)
