Cloudy Boxy Openwork cardigan pattern issue

I have attempted to knit the right front of the pattern for this cardigan but each time I end up with 12 stitches left rather than 13. Additionally the pattern is slanted and not consistent. I am wondering if some could help if they can see where the issue is. The image shows both the left front of the pattern which I have knitted and it looks as it should.

Welcome to KH!

Which size are you making, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc?

Looking at the first size, there should be 13sts remaining on the left front at the end of the WS row. Is it possible that you added a decrease which is shifting the pattern stitch and causing the slant? I assume the buttonhole is only going to be worked on some of the RS rows and that you will work knit sts in place of it so that the beginning of the RS row before the repeat is:
K8, P1, Tw2R, Tw2L.

Thanks for the reply. I am making the 3rd size. When I start the WS I count 53 stitches as per pattern and do the following K6, P2, yrn ,P2tog, K1 * P,4, K1,P2,yrn, P2tog , K1* I have done this numerous times but still getting 12 stitches left on the left needle. From your reply do you think I am to add a knit stitch here? That makes sense about doing K8 for the rows without button holes.

The Right Front WS row 2 starts out K6, P1, yrn ,P2tog, K1 * P,4, K1,P2,yrn, P2tog , K1*.
When you P2 that is using the stitch that should be part of the 13 at the end. It’s also shifting the pattern.

Thanks so much  I am away knitting again. I was confused with the P2 as I was reading it as P2 1 time instead of P1 for 3rd size
