Clarity/YO/ decreasing & increasing

Hi,

I had a question regarding the episode of Knitty Gritty this morning. You don’t have to see the show to answer this question.

They were working on a [B]lace pattern[/B]. [B]The knitter was doing continential style[/B]. I do english. When she got to the first YO, K2tog she said that you don’'t have to worry about increasing (after the K2tog) [B]because the YO creats a stitch[/B]. In English the YO doesn’t. You just move the yarn to the front. [B]Correct?[/B] [B]If there’s a continential knitter out there maybe you can answer the question…Does YO create a stitch in continential only?[/B]

The yarn over ALWAYS creates a stitch, whether you are knitting English or Continental. It makes a pretty little eyelet in your knitting, which is why it is often used in lace. In conjuction with the increase, as you said, there is a decrease, like the K2tog.
