How can I convert a pattern that calls for circular needles to single or double pointed needles?
It depends on the pattern–size, etc.
What are you trying to do?
I am trying to do a baby hat and don’t have any circular needles. I live in the country so its impossible to “run” to the store for more needles. Just getting back in to knitting other things than scarves and just finished a baby sweater but can’t start the matching hat or booties without circular. I thought maybe I could just knit in the flat and seam but not sure where to end the row reading from a circular pattern. Thanks
You could work it flat, or with dpns–they’d work for a baby hat.
If you work it flat, start the rows where the rounds would be joined. But remember that you’ll have to reverse the order and the stitches (k to p and vice versa) when you do the wrong side rows.
If you wanted, you could add a stitch at each edge for seaming, but for a baby hat, I don’t think size is that much of an issue.
