Can you give a link to the pattern? It should give you all that information right on the pattern.

HI-THE PATTER JUST SAYS 6.5MM CIRCULAR NEEDLES-IF YOU GO TO GETKNITTED.COM IT IS THE FLOWER POWER FELTED BAG-THE PATTERN STARTS

USING 6.5MM CIRCULAR NEEDLES CAST ON 40 STITCHES AND WORK BACK AND FORTH IN ROWS WORK GARTER STITCH FOR 40 ROWS-DOES THIS ALSO MEAN I DONT DO THIS IN THE ROUND? i HAVE NEVER WORKED WITH CIRCULAR NEEDLES ONLY dpns

THANKS

i would say use 16 inch circular needles is best, does the pattern say to pick up stitches later on?

it sounds similar to a bag i’v just started, where you cast on and knit a recatngle back and forth on the circulars WITHOUT joining the knitting, when the rectangle is large enough, you pick up stitches around the edge join the knitting and knit in the round for the rest of the bag.

when knitting in the round, you have to choose the circular needle small enough to hold all your stitches when theyre joined without gaps or stretching.

hi, no it doesnt say you have to pick up any later on-

Ummm… that link wasn’t very helpful, as you didn’t specify which company you got the pattern from, and there are heaps listed there, so I googled it instead and it’s by South West Trading Company… I can’t see the actual pattern as I have no intention of buying it, but by the looks of the bags construction, it definately has a rectangular/square base, then sides built from that base, so it MUST say to pick up stitches at some point - if you continue to look at the pattern the stitch count must increase from the original 40 at some point, and we need to know what the stitches are increased to (i’m guessing it will be around 160ish) and what it says around this point in the pattern…

If anyone else wants to look at the bag and see what they think THIS is the link to use.

hi sorry silly me it does say pick up and it then goes to 120 stitches-you can tell im a novice cant you?

thanks Louise

We have all been there :teehee: … I would be inclined once you get to this stage, to use a 24" circ… It could be a tad of a squeeze getting them onto a 16".

I prefer to knit the straight part on straint needles, then switch to circular when picking up all the side stitches. Somehow, knitting on the straights helps me get a better start.

Good luck!
