I made an adorable puppy sweater (my first ever knitting!), but the circular needles were huge! I had to make a small sweater for a 2 lb. pup. My question is - there were about 96 stiches for the edge ribbing, that I put on US 7 circular needles. Is there a better way to do this? The ribbing ended up looking like “skirting!” It was flared out, rather than pulled the edge of the sweater in like it should have.

What size needle did you use on the body of the sweater? I usually use a needle one or two sizes smaller for the ribbing than on the body of my doggie sweaters. Is it possible that the length of the circs was too long, rather than the size of the needle? Or maybe you picked up some additional stitches?
How long was the circ? For that many stitches you can probably use a 16 in. I am making a hat with 100 stitches on a 16.
It was 25 in. I think…where do you get smaller circular needles? I looked at Michael’s and this was the smallest circle available there.
I hate to say it, but you need an interchangable set! Ebay sells the circular sets either “boye” or “denise” and they come with different length cables for the circ needles. It is worth the $30-40 you’ll pay because it turns out to be a ton of different needles worth!
They can be tough to find. I couldn’t find them at Michaels or Joanns here, but ended up finding them at Tall Mouse. I finally got a set of Denise Interchangeables to solve that problem. Call around to various LYS and craft stores and save yourself a wasted trip.
Most online places have the shorter needles, too, if you don’t want to buy interchangeables.
