Circular needles collapsing inwards

Hi,

I’m knitting a traditional fair-isle jumper (pattern by Mati Ventrillon). It’s the first time I’m knitting a project with 336 stitches on the circular needles. I’m using an 80cm length. Everything has been working, I’m 10 rows in, the pattern is looking lovely… But I’m confused as to why the needles are rolling inwards?

Is it just part and parcel with having a lot of stitches? Maybe my tension is rolling them?

Appreciate any answers!

Can you post a photo of the needles? Use the landscape icon at the top of the Reply box. I don’t understand how the needles are rolling inward. Depending on your gauge, are your sts too crowded on the needle you’re using?

It’s quite hard to see but where the wire connects to the needle, it then has the needle pointing upwards

This may be a feature of these needles. If so, both needle ends should have this bend near the join to the cable.
I’m not fond of it on shorter needles (16") but if you find it annoying then best to switch to a straighter needle.
The colorwork does look lovely and there’s plenty of room for your sts.

Thanks.

I think your right, it must be the needle design combine with the density of the work; I think it might be easing out the more rows I complete…

Thanks for the help!

Sebastian

Let us know if it improves or not. Fingers crossed

Im using this kind of needles and love it. It sits perfectly in my hand. But that is just my opinion.

My colorwork tends to do this too. I’m using ChiaoGoo interchangeable needles and cable.
Even though I am doing colorwork it is still stockinette, which curls. I believe that is the cause. Once I get the body knit and start the bottom rib the curl goes away.
Same goes for bottom up, once I get into the neckline rib the curl goes away.

I think it’s the design of the needle. I have an old Millward and an old Aero fixed circular needle that have this kink at the end. I mostly use interchangeable tips now, which are straight. It’s definitely odd when moving from one to the other!

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think it might be a mixture of all the above - it was worse in the earlier rounds (about 20 onwards) perhaps due to the natural curl of the size almost like a very giant hat! It has eased up a lot, now on round 60.

I also think these odd circular needles with the kink are causing some issues with stitch management on the needles causing some unwanted/unexpected bunching.

Anyway, not much I can do about it now as I’m 1/4 way there and it’s not the end of the world.

Thanks again for all your thoughts!
