Circular needles, cable twisting

I’m knitting a flat project on circular needles, but the next project I want to knit is in the round. The problem is my cables keep curling back into the packaged shape. How do I fix this without ruining my needles?

Apologies if this has been asked and answered before, I couldn’t seem to find it.

Try this - hold the 2 ends in each hand. turn on the hot water in your kitchen sink. Hold the needle stretched out straight and run it under the hot water end to end for a few minutes. Take away from the hot water and keep holding it stretched out until it cools off.

Sometimes this helps.

What Marilyn said. And with some needles, hot tap water isn’t hot enough; boil some water and dip the cords into it. For about a minute or two. Sometimes you have to do this a couple times.

Thanks so much!

Be careful to keep the joins away from the hot water as much as possible. This might loosen the join.
