Circular needle help!

Hello everyone! I’m new to this forum, as well as knitting, and I am having a major dilemma with http://www.touchinglittlelives.org/ellenhat.html <–that pattern. You see, I have the sixteen-inch-long cable, but as I am decreasing and only have about thirty stitches left, it is SO hard to knit! I don’t understand what the problem is. I assume the cable is simply too long for the pattern; I honestly don’t have any idea what I’m doing anymore, or if I’m going to make it to the final four stitches.

I guess what I’d really like to know is: is this normal? Does everyone have such a hard time knitting on a 16" round when they come to the final stitches? If it isn’t, what on earth am I doing wrong?!

Welcome to the forum–I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time.

At some point, there are too few stitches to go around the needle, as you’ve discovered. This is when you need to switch to double pointed needles, or one of the other techniques (using 2 circs or magic loop.)

Oh!! Well, that explains a lot. Haha. Oh well.

Thanks so much!
