Circular knitting

I’m about to start my first ever circular project.

I’ve adapted this:

So that the ribbing rows at the start are on straight’s, so I can put a split with button holes.

I’m about to transfer to circular’s, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips about it - How do I make sure the first join is strong, and are there any traps I can fall into?

Thanks

Knit the last row flat with the circular needles, then keep knitting and start the next row in the round. Just make sure the first few stitches are a little bit tighter after you join.
