Cig Smoke in yarn

Ok… I smoke… (I know it’s nasty) and short of knitting outside in the nasty Louisiana humidity, once I complete a project and want to send it to a non smoking friend, how can I desmoke it? Handwashing and drying it then put it in a ziplock bag with baking soda packets? I don’t want them having to smell my funky smoke…

Do your clothes smell like smoke after you wash them? Probably not. I think washing should be good enough.

I know they don’t smell like smoke to me after I wash them, but was unsure as to what a non-smoker would smell. Their noses work so much better than mine! Between soap making, candle making, and smoking… My nose is pretty shot!

There is hope! TY TY TY TY!

febreeze

Maybe Tide with Febreze would work well… or some other odor removing detergent.

Baking soda added to the laundry is supposed to help odors as well.

I would also put a note in with the items on how to wash them in case there is a lingering odor and they’d like to wash them themselves.

Hmmm… Am thinking about the Tide… I think I’ll do that and toss in a few bubbling bath bombs… A tangerine scented scarf! How awesome!

Oh! I’d be careful with the bath bombs…they may make it too sudsy and cause a problem with the washer.

Oh no! Seems I totally posted that wrong! My mom loves my bubbling bath bombs, and I make them, so I’ll toss a few in the box with the scarf… Not to put in the washer!

:roflhard:

Apple cider vinegar thrown in your washer with the soap is excellent at taking away odors. You can use as much or as little as you need, it’s cheap and I have had it take the smell of cat urine, mildew and smoke out of things. Sometimes it can take a couple times of washing with it if the smell is really strong, but it is my laundry deodorizer of choice!

Does the vinegar soften the water, too? I have hard water, and this could be an easy solution.

I’m not sure if it softens it or not, we have a water softener in this house, but the last couple places I lived we had hard water and it worked just as well to deodorize.

Oh thank god! I had visions of bubbles pouring out of your washer and snaking out under the door… :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: Yes, putting them in with the gift is a nice idea.
