Ok…the gown I have picked is just too complicated for me to make in the time frame I have to make it (bummer, I can’t count)…
the baby is a boy, and this gown is similar to the one I was going to make…but this is MUCH more “girly” than the one I wanted to do…
Sooo…what can we do to macho this up a bit? I know, lots to ask, cuz it is a dress after all.

Well, I guess to make it more boyish you could un-pouf the sleeves and maybe make the bottom with a drawstring. Maybe add a non-frilly bonnet to go with it?
would a seed stitch front, instead of the bows be better? I’m thinking soo…??? AAAAAAAAAAAa I am SOOO running out of time…Her shots stop in 2 weeks, and then it’s anybody’s guess when he’ll be born…I do have time after that as, he’ll probably be in NICU for a while.

I sew MUCH worse than I knit…well my machine is WAY tempermental…and I generally need to drink a bottle of something afterwards…not good when one is trying to help bring and celebrate a child into the Lord’s kingdom eh??? rofl…

Now, ya’ll have suggested less poofy sleeves, which I totally agree with!!! 
The sleeves are done in short rows, which I am guessing lends itself to the poofyness. Most sleeves I have seen are sewn of after they are made. These, you pick up the stitches.
Is there a formula for sleeves? That would probably be the best. I’ll probably not be working on these until tomorrow, or late tonight, as the front and back will be done today!!
Suggestions as to what to do??
I am using the pattern more again, as a formula. I’m also going to look for a MUCH MUCH simpler skirt pattern. Have I arrived?? modifiying something so much??? lol…

Here’s the bodice…this is a REALLY crummy picture…I used a seed stitch…
I’ve done short rows before (once a long time ago, and on socks)
here’s where I am stuck…
Sleeves (must be completed before the rest of the dress) – worked in stockinette stitch:
At one armhole edge, pick up 46 sts around armhole.
Starting with a purl row, work across 17 sts, place a marker, then work across next 12. Turn.
Knit into front and back of next 12 sts to marker.
Turn.
*** I’ve done the above, and now am at the below.
Work short rows (working in 1 st at each turn) until 5 sts rem at each end. [color=red]Does “working in” mean decrease? and “each end” of what are they talking about? or am I increasing at each end, which makes less sense. And if am decreasing, am I picking up, the stitches that didn’t get purled in the first row? if in fact I am decreasing?[/color]
Add in two sts at each end of next two rows, t[color=darkblue]hen add in rem 3 sts at end of next two rows.[/color] [color=red]I get the first part in black, but the second part in blue, what remaining 3 stitches[/color]?
Work 2 rows even. I get this
Right side should be facing for next row. I get this from here to the end, but I will not be doing the beading…THIS time around!!!
Next row: k1, *k2 tog,rep from * across.
Purl one row. Next Row: k1, *yo, k2 tog, rep from * ending k1. On next row, add beads on every k2 tog st from last row. (This is done by taking a the Size 10 metal crochet hook, insert hook through bead, then pull stitch off needle and through the bead. Replace st back on needle and purl that stitch.) Bind off knitwise on next row.
Could it be that you need to work the shaping like the socks in this pattern? Where it says long rows. In this you you’re working short rows and picking up a stitch at each end, kind of like what you’re describing.
I’ll give that a try…should I try on some waste yarn first ya think?
That might be a very good idea. The shaping this way makes sense in theory, and it’s not a monster-sized sleeve, so it might save you trouble in the end.
Ok…off and running…what’s the part, 5 stitches at each end mean? I think that’s the only other question I had…

I think you’ll keep moving the short row wrapped stitch out by one stitch each time, until you get to the point when there’s 5 stitches left at the ends that you haven’t worked. Then you’ll probably work two stitches before you wrap and turn, and then the final three.
