Chinese Waves stitch shaping advice

I love this stitch but if you’re increasing/decreasing, how can you tell what to do on the next row? I know you need to read your knitting, but I’m thinking there must be a way of using basics maths to help work the post-shaping rows out as well, lol.

This is such a pretty stitch. I hadn’t seen it before so thank you.
You can add or subtract the increases or decreases from the edge or from a stitch in from the edge. Keep track of cumulative increases or decreases as you continue.

For example, decreasing one stitch ever other row 4 times means decreasing one stitch from the pattern the first dec row, 2sts the second dec row, 3 sts the third dec row and so on. (For myself, I’d rather look at the pattern and figure out where to start the row.)

Thanks, salmonmac. Any way I can do this stitch with short rows, too? :joy:

You’ll have to give it a try. The short rows will probably be more noticeable but technically they can be done.

Cool, wish me luck lol!
