Changing yarn weights for pattern

I’m using this pattern february Baby Beanie on ravelry, but my sister purchased fingering yarn when the yarns in the pattern appear to be DK weight. HELP. I want to use her yarn and still make the pattern. I have no idea what to do. The pattern calls for a 5 stitches/inch and fingering is 7-8 stitches/inch. The yarn is Knit Picks Felici. Thanks for the help.

Use the yarn doubled, that makes fingering weight into DK weight.

yes, but will it mess up the pattern?? It is lacy. THX

No, you just work with 2 strands of the thinner yarn on the same needles you’'d use for the heavier yarn. Just work it stitch for stitch, not double the stitches.

Thanks…I’ll give it a try and see how it goes. I can always frog it back out if it doesn’t look good.
