Changing to DPN

In knitting a sweater sleeve to the cuff, the pattern then says to change to double point needles.
There are 51 stitches on a size 7 circular needle, so now I need to change to the dpn and I don’t know how to begin.

How does 51 stitches fit on one size 3.75 mm double point needle? Or do I divide the stitches onto 3 dpn and knit with the 4th needle?

I have never knitted with double point needles before.
I really appreciate any help that you could offer.
Thank you!

Slip or knit them to the double-pointed needles, fairly evenly divided among 3 (or 4) and knit with the 4th (or 5th).

Amy has video for double pointed knitting (as well as two cable needles and magic loop) for knitting small diameters. Knitting with the dpns is a good skill to have, though, and is easiest to learn when you already have stitches established rather than starting from cast on.

It says dpns, which is plural - start knitting with one and when that’s pretty full, knit onto the 2nd needle, then the 3rd one.

Depending on the length of the circular needle couldn’t you use magic loop or knit in a second circular needle?
