Changing pattern for different yarn

If I wanted to knit this, but I do not have any bulky yarn on hand what would I need to do to make this in Worsted or fingering weight yarn? It is a capelet, for some reason the picture did not post. It is a free pattern from lionbrand site

Cast on 160 sts.
Work in Seed St until piece measures 2 1/2 in. (6.5 cm) from beg.
Beg with a k row, work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) for 4 rows.

Work even in St st for 3 rows.

Continue working as established, working in St st and dec 8 sts every 4 rows, until only 8 sts remain. Bind off.

Hmm… looks like you start at the bottom and decrease as you go up. So if you figure out how many you need to cast on for the body you could just decrease as much as you need…?

Here’s an easy way to figure out how to start -
The gauge is 14 sts + 20 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st divided into the cast on of 160 sts that would measure almost 48". So take your sts per inch on the yarn and needles you want to use and multiply times 48".

The decrease rows dec 8 sts across, which would be about 2" worth so take your sts per inch again, say it’s 5, and you’d want to dec 10 sts on each dec row. Figure out how many sts you need between decs on your stitch number to get 10 evenly spaced. Then on the following dec rows, knit 1 less stitch between the decs.

Do the same for the rest of the instructions - wherever it gives you a stitch number, convert that to inches and then into the stitches your gauge needs for the measurement.
