Changing border in pattern

I’m making a temperature scarf from this pattern:

After watching the video tutorial I can see that the edges are rolling. When I look at the pattern, each end is knit 6 purl 6 on the front and purl 6 knit 6 on the back. So it is essentially a stockinette stitch border which always curls. I was wondering if I changed this to either a garter or seed stitch for the first 6 stitches, would it stop the curling? She is a new knitter so she wasn’t sure how to stop the curling. Thanks for any help!

You’re right. Either garter or seed stitch will help with the curling. Stockinette may still try to flip the border but at least you have a chance with a non-curling stitch. Blocking will also help.
